Shakespeare gives me a lot of feelings

Part of me thinks the Academy wasn’t ready to have black women take both Best Supporting and Best Actress…. maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think people are ready.

As sad as that is, I think it’s true.

A lot of people are saying that Viola Davis will have plenty of other opportunities to be nominated. Yes, that’s probably true, but likely only as Best Supporting Actress. We’re blind to a lot of racism in Hollywood. Danny Glover has been trying to get a movie about Toussaint L’Ouverture made for years. Hollywood executives refused to fund the movie because there were “no white heroes.” That’s the world we live in. Leading roles for Black men are few and far between. Leading roles for Black women are practically non-existent. It’s just incredibly disappointing. EVEN MERYL WANTED VIOLA TO WIN! COME ON.
