Monkey Chatter of the Mind
Ahoy! I'm Becca, and these are the inane ramblings and discoveries of a twenty something South African Jewish Director/Actor/Professional Bunburyist living and studying in New York. I am decidedly ENFJ, an Ally, very liberal, and am generally tolerant of everything besides willful ignorance. Occasionally, I wax rhapsodic about olives.

Martin Scorsese while making Hugo

I think I’d give a limb to shadow Martin Scorcese on set for one day

Hugo is one giant commentary on why movies are so important to us as a people. Because films allow us magic and wonder and a brief escape from reality and the suspension of disbelief, if only for a moment.
I fucking love this film.

jgaskisanerd and I are currently trapped in a Hugo situation right now. I’m quite content to never be out of said situation.

How could anyone possibly say that the acting in Hugo was bad??? (I’m looking at YOU IMDB message boards).  Hugo was a lot like Lincoln in the sense that both casts were packed with great character actors, all of whom seemed to be giving their whole hearts to the project.

Look at Helen McCrory’s face.  The way she goes from polite, detachment to being genuinely moved and surprised with a slight rise of her eyebrows and the shifting of her lips.  You can literally see weight lift from her shoulders.  And Michael Stuhlbarg!!! You know he’s being genuine in his flattery, but you can also see that’s he’s being pointed and strategic. These two were the unsung heroes of Hugo for me. And their performances were just two of many that stirred me to the core. FUCK, WHAT A GREAT MOVIE.

“Sometimes I come up here at night, even when I’m not fixing clocks, just to look at the city. I like to imagine that the world is one big machine. You know, machines never have any extra parts. They have the exact number and type of parts they need. So I figure  if the entire world is a big machine, I have to be here for some reason. And that means you have to be here for some reason too.”

I’d imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured, if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn’t be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason.
